Job types settings

The kinds of job your workshop does. A type sets a badge colour, a starting labour rate, a default checklist and standard parts.

When to use

  • You are setting up WSManager.
  • You add a new kind of work.
  • You want a service’s standard parts added to every job of that type.

Only Owners can change job types. Add at least one before creating jobs.

Overview

The Job types page lists each type with its default labour rate, default checklist, how many jobs use it, and its status.

Key features

  • Name and Colour. The colour shows on the badge on the dashboard and job page, and as the band across the top of the job card.
  • Default labour rate ($ per hour, excluding GST). Optional. A new job starts with the customer’s own rate if there is one, else this, else the workshop’s.
  • Default checklist. Added to each new job of this type. Office, Supervisors and Owners can add or remove checklists on a job.
  • Active. An inactive type cannot be chosen for new jobs. Existing jobs keep it.
  • Standard parts. Parts and default quantities added to every new job of this type, priced when the job is made. They can be changed or removed on the job. You can reorder them, change their quantity, and remove them. A standard part that has become inactive is flagged and left out of new jobs.

How to: add a job type

  1. Go to Settings, then Job types, then Add job type.
  2. Enter the Name and choose a Colour.
  3. Optionally set a Default labour rate and Default checklist.
  4. Select Add job type.

How to: add standard parts

  1. Open the type with Edit.
  2. Under Standard parts, type in Add a standard part and select Find part.
  3. Select Add beside the part.
  4. Set the Default quantity, use Up and Down to order the list, and select Save on the row.

Tips & gotchas

  • If you change a job’s type before work starts, the old type’s standard parts are swapped for the new type’s.
  • A type that jobs use is made inactive rather than removed.
