Markups

How much is added to a part’s cost to get its sell price, by supplier, by category, and as a default. Also where an Owner chooses the parts list source.

When to use

  • You set up your parts pricing.
  • A supplier changes how much you add on.
  • You are switching the parts list between WSManager and Xero items.

Office and Owner can use the Markups page. Only Owners can change the parts list source.

Overview

A part’s sell price is its fixed sell price if it has one. Otherwise it is cost plus a markup. The markup is taken from the first of these that is set:

  1. The part’s own Markup on cost (%).
  2. Its supplier’s markup.
  3. Its category’s markup.
  4. The Default parts markup %.

The Markups page has four sections: Supplier suffixes, Categories, Default markups and Parts list.

Key features

  • Supplier suffixes. A supplier is the last word of a part’s code, for example BOA. Each suffix has a supplier name, a Markup % and an active tick. A supplier that parts use is deactivated, not removed.
  • Categories. A category’s markup applies to its parts that have no markup of their own and no supplier markup. Leave it blank to use the default.
  • Default markups. Default parts markup % and Ordered components markup %, which prices parts you buy in for a job at cost plus this markup.
  • Parts list source. WSManager list or Xero items.

How to: add a supplier

  1. Under Supplier suffixes, enter the Suffix, Supplier and Markup %.
  2. Select Add supplier.

How to: add a category

  1. Under Categories, enter the Category and optionally a Markup % (optional).
  2. Select Add category.

How to: set the default markups

  1. Under Default markups, enter the Default parts markup % and the Ordered components markup %.
  2. Select Save defaults.

How to: change the parts list source (Owner)

  1. Under Parts list, choose the Parts list source. Xero items is available once Xero is connected.
  2. Select Change source.
  3. A preview shows what will happen: parts taken over by Xero items, new parts made, and parts made inactive. Nothing is deleted.
  4. Select Switch to Xero items or Switch to the WSManager list to confirm.

Switching is recorded in the audit log. Moving back to the WSManager list keeps the parts and makes them editable.

Tips & gotchas

  • A markup is a percentage on cost. 100% means a sell price of twice the cost.
  • For Xero items, the markup only prices items that have no sales price in Xero.
  • Changing a markup does not change jobs already priced. Use Reprice parts on a job.
  • Switching to Xero items is refused while Xero is not connected or has no items.
