Shared devices settings
Add the workshop’s shared PCs and tablets, each with its own sign-in.
When to use
- You are setting up a workshop PC or tablet.
- A device is lost, replaced or should stop working.
Only Owners can change shared devices.
Overview
A shared device is not a person. It has a name, a username and a password, and stays signed in. Staff then pick their name and enter a PIN on it. See the shared workshop PC.
The Shared devices page lists each device with its name, username, status (Active, Inactive or Sign-in locked) and when it was last used.
Key features
- Add shared device with a Name (for example Workshop PC), a Username (letters, numbers, dots, dashes and underscores, for example
workshop-pc) and a Password of at least 10 characters. - Revoke signs the device out at once. Sign it in again with its username and password.
- Deactivate stops it signing in until you Reactivate it.
- Set new password also signs the device out.
- Idle time. How long the PC waits before going back to the board is set on Time settings.
How to: add a shared device
- Go to Settings, then Shared devices, then Add shared device.
- Enter the Name, Username and Password.
- Select Add shared device.
- On the PC, go to the sign-in page and select Signing in a shared workshop PC?. Enter the username and password once.
How to: sign a device out
Open the device and select Revoke, then confirm.
Tips & gotchas
- The device password is only typed once, on the device. Staff never need it.
- Keep devices for the workshop floor only. Office work needs a person’s own sign-in.
